Everyone wants to make a difference...

Here are some ways that you can be a hands-on disciple for Jesus in the neighborhood and around the world.

Mission for Area People
Central has monthly commitments at Mission for Area People housed at Temple United Methodist Church in Muskegon Heights. If you want to help with MAP Supper House (1st Friday of the month) or at the MAP Food Pantry or Clothes Closet, contact Carol Higginson, 759-0329. We also support MAP’s Christmas Shoppe and Back Pack distribution. Click here for their website.

Kids' Food Basket Muskegon
Housed right here at Central, 600 meals are prepared and packed every weekday for hungry school children in our city. Contact KFB Muskegon, at 231-577-6532 if you want to lend a hand. There are two shifts: Monday thru Thursday 10-11 a.m. and Monday thru Friday 1-2 p.m. For more information about Kids' Food Basket, go to their website.

Nelson School
We are in our fourth year of adopting a third grade class at Nelson School. Take an interest in a young learner! Talk with Merijo Dulyea, our Nelson School buddy, 292-2448. We provide school supplies, classroom treats, and tutoring.

Nelson Neighborhood Association
Central United Methodist Church is in the Nelson Neighborhood. Church leaders meet regularly with the Nelson Neighborhood Association toward partnership that will benefit the community. Website

The first Sunday of October is the date of the annual Walk for Hunger in Muskegon. Central joins with hundreds of others in the city to raise awareness and dollars. CROP pledges stay in the community to fund feeding programs. CROP pledges are sent around the world to meet basic needs of food and water. A little short of $1.1million has been raised in the 35 years we have taken to the sidewalks for this cause. Website

Mt. Zion Partnership
Central UMC and Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ enter into several partnerships during the year. In spring and fall we co-sponsor a mobile food pantry through Feeding America. Ten thousand pounds of food is distributed in Huntington Bank parking lot that sits between our two churches. On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving we co-host the annual Community Turkey Dinner, a dine-in and take-out ministry that feeds over 600 neighbors.
