Classic Worship in a Classic Setting

Central worship, at both the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services, is traditional in style. The more informal early service in the chapel features the organ and congregational singing. The sanctuary service is liturgical and Central’s choirs share their music ministry week by week. Preaching is lectionary-based.

Central will also offer Taize Worship on a regular basis on the second Wednesday of every month. Central’s labyrinth will be open in Parish Hall from 7 am to 7 pm. The Taize Service will then begin at 7 pm. While liturgical worship lifts us up to God, Taize Worship center us in God, through candlelight, prayers, readings, soft music with repetitive words, and silence. The experience is meditative and inspiring.

Holy Communion is the sacrament through which God sustains our faith. The loaf and cup are a holy meal. Central Church practices the United Methodist tradition of the open table, that any and all who desire to partake of the Lord’s bounty are invited to do so. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month in both worship services. Each month, Central’s Home Communion program, led by Peter VanHoesen, takes the sacrament from the sanctuary to Central’s homebound members and friends.

Baptism is the sacrament through which God lays a claim on our lives that is never relinquished. Through Baptism, one is united with Christ and incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church. Children, as well as youth and adults, are baptized in the United Methodist tradition. Children too young for the Confirmation process may be baptized if at least one parent is an active member in full connection at Central Church. For questions, consult Rev. Hansen.
